About Us

After more than twenty years' experience of outstanding primary practice at both class and senior leadership levels, Ian Pilkington decided to pursue a different approach to teaching. With a philosophy that believes children need to be equipped with skills broader and at a higher level than those currently defined in a restrictive National Curriculum, Ian established Techtivity to provide creative learning with the best of modern technology and equip children with essential fluencies for the 21st century.

 

"We do not know what we are preparing our young people for. It is only a few years ago that the iPhone was launched and yet now we are walking around with powerful, 64-bit computers in our pockets. What will the world be like in ten year's time? 

It is for this reason that I believe we need to develop a broader skill set than many primary schools can deliver. We need to enhance the values of tolerance and understanding, respect and discipline with problem solving skills that are transferrable across a wide range of settings and applications. We need to develop creative thinkers and creative minds that can apply strategies to business, commerce and technology as well as the more traditional arts."

Ian is an official Apple Teacher, a Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator a Certified Technology Outdoors and STEAM Educator. He is a  published author, photographer and musician who has taught in Kirklees and Calderdale in West Yorkshire. He has been a music specialist, Deputy Head and Headteacher as well as having extensive consultancy and training experience.
